PUSH

When it breaks it sounds like dust
falling
Silver notes settling,
It's more beautiful shattered
than whole,
And bruises are just scattered patterns
that fade
And grow old
She can't be told.

ELEVEN

I feel so cheated out of knowing you
Knowing me
And knowing nothing first hand
Just second hand passed down,
Over time what's mine becomes blurred
And I don't know what's real to me
Or a cut out figurine
Of imagination

EASY TARGET

I hope I put a spanner in your works,
I hope I ruin your life
With little effort,
Maybe a half smile
That weakens your knees,
Changes the way you breathe
Heart palpitations when I walk through your mind,
And you find in moments of clarity or in dreams
I am all you see
An amalgamation of everything you need.

THE INSIDE IS BLANK

Not as in a canvas that can be painted on,
Or a page that can be written on
As in empty,
And I'm venting because there's nothing behind your eyes
Or in the lines of your veins
It's as though nothing remains
Or maybe there was nothing to begin with at all
And there should be a warning sign,
Mind the hole
If you enter you will fall.

EVERYWHERE

You are here, and here
The creases in the clouds
And the crevices between the branches in the trees
The cascading leaves,
The cracks in the pavements
Leading to back street memories
The spilt Hennessy leaking down the drain,
The same air that when inhaled
Impales and winds from the inside
The walls have eyes
I can't hide from you.

KNOCK KNOCK

Imagine if people could barge in on your thoughts,
At any time
Unbeknownst to you
Listen in to the intimate things, minute by minute
That you dare to think because they're private
At times volatile and brutally honest
But because they're only thought and not uttered
No one is hurt or wounded by the venom in your words
So just imagine if they heard
The inner verses outer line shattered.
Everything laid bare
No one spared.

FAVOURITE SONG

And now when I listen to my favourite songs
I don't hear the lyrics sang
But the conversations we had
Whilst they played in the background
Against a back drop of long laughs,
Birds tweeting
Flower buds that look like bells ringing,
And there's a pang in the pit of my stomach
At this part
Where you started to say something
But dismissed it as a silly thing
I know I would have wanted to hear
Because your eyes said enough
And I swear they tore off the first layer of my skin
Penetrating deep within
I know you would have said something
Like how this song begins.

RAIN DANCE

I'm going to pull the petal off every last stem,
Hold it like a gem to the sky
Crush it to dust between my fingers,
Why?
Because we destroy what we love
And when these ash like particles fall,
From high above
They'll hit the ground like silent notes
And we'll dance to the sound of violence.

SWEET DREAMS

Stay out of my dreams,
Don't you think you occupied enough of my day?
And my thoughts, which were all about you
Wondering if you noticed me,
Noticing things about you
And now you creep into my sleep
So my heart flutters even with eyes shutting for the night
You're pulling my inner strings relentlessly
I am a puppet
Dissemble my wings
And I fall hopelessly
Tripping on ecstasy
See,
In my dreams you are,
Bright lights and fire flies and golden eyed and
Precious time and
All mine.

QUIET DOWN

You're so quiet,
She's told, as though it's a bad thing
A negative trait
And she almost feels obliged to string
A sentence together
That probably starts with the weather
And a bunch of other things
That could have gone unsaid
Just talking for the sake of it
To break a bit of the silence
That surrounds us,
But rather than ground it liberates
And that might be why she appreciates,
Silence.
Not the nuisance of words
That tangle and tongue tie
And lie
Silence
No one speak
Just listen.

SUSPENSION

The best part of her day is when it ends,
When she can bury her head
Under a blanket of dark skies,
Not even starry eyes
Penetrate this darkness
It's just miles and miles of
Endless
Seamless, sleep

SWAN LAKE

If I had your ears,
I wouldn't hear any of the things they whisper
Because you're deaf to it all
If I had your eyes,
I wouldn't see any of the things I've witnessed.
Because you're blind to it all,
If my skin was thick, cushioned for every fall
I wouldn't have so many stories to tell, written so well
In a permanent kind of marker
But dark is light to you
And even birds without wings still take off in flight,
Still soar through jagged clouds,
Bound for the stars and beyond
And below,
The ripples in the water,
Though they speak, you do not listen
The only sound is music
That you dance to, a slow waltz
Faultless in every way you move.

OFF THE WALL

Some may call it by another name
It's all the same to me
Maybe it's a different smile for them than me,
One that shows off deeper lines
And dimmed eyes
I only see light, of the brightest kind
And it bounces around like a torch beam
Gleaming,
Off the ceiling,
Rebounding on the ground
Just follow, it says
I'll show you the way.

SECRET GARDEN

I know a place, if you'll let me show you,
If you'll be led by a willing hand,
I'll take you down a sloping path.
And here the sun rises just to bathe you in light
And you're an illuminous light, that blinds the eyes
And the trees are you,
The air is you
The ground, and the sky rise and fall with you.

EUPHORIA

Sometimes,
I wish
I could bottle That feeling of
Complete Euphoria,
And get drunk Off it later.

BROKEN

I found your keys down the back of the sofa
And I took this as a sign,
A sign that it was over
It was the positioning, they looked perfectly placed
And far from lost
Instantly I recognised, your resignation
I'd seen it before,
Taking one glass down for a solo drink, left in the sink,
Leaving as I enter a room
And it feels as though I'm breathing for two,
Because you walk around as if you're almost dead
And buried somewhere beneath
Your brown eyes
Are the reasons why, but they don't look into mine anymore
They look ahead at a sailing ship
Ebbing towards an unknown address
It's a burdened boat and from where I'm standing
Everything on it might just drown.

LET THE RIGHT ONE IN

She's not concerned with the right one,
Just anyone, so she's not alone
So when the light falls away
The night can be crushed between bones,
Some already breaking from the night before
And the best part, the morning after, after they've gone
She can wipe away
The lingering rings of wine glass stains
That say, someone else was here.

BLIND

When you showed me your true colours,
I'll admit I could see nothing else clearly after
And even when I looked away
My vision was like looking through a kaleidoscope
An impaired view
And everything ordinary was now askew
But more beautiful
Until I close my eyes,
So I can't close my eyes, can't fall asleep
Because these are infinite dreams I see
Playing out in front of me.

SHADOW

You stood at the edge of me, with a paintbrush in hand and coloured me in. Coloured my skin.
My shadow weeps and all of the colours bleed into one.

APOCALYPSE

If the world was upside down
Prayers would rise and in rivers drown
And raining would be heavy words
Of regret, flimsy apologies, misery
When they hit the sky,
They'd dissipate, picked apart by
Swarms of deranged birds
Shared out and passed around
So "forgive me for I have sinned"
Might just end up "give me"
And when you put palm to palm
Head to knee
Was all you wanted to say in the beginning.

SIX FEET UNDER

How much further before you see, that I'm slipping through the grains of the Earth.

CRYSTALLISED

There is beauty in my lies,
Spawned out of crystallised light
That blinds your eyes
Numbs your tongue,
Dumbfounded you look on
At my spinning masterpiece of,
Not white lies, slipped out
Scratching the surface, softly softly
Or pernicious lies, thought out then
Spilled out one after the other
Double-edged sword drawing out
Hoarse cries, that drone on and on
Just perfectly see-through lies
That you see right through.

THE UNDERPASS

Standing under the underpass,
Looking up
Rain falls on tears
Falls down, hits the ground
Like a pin-pointed arrow
Narrowly missing my feet,
That are buried deep in the puddles
Of rising anguish
My legs are caving in, ready to give obeisance to the sea lord
Standing under the the underpass
Looking up

WANDERER

There is no path I can walk,
Where I can leave my own footprints first
The Earths surface has been covered,
Over
I follow you, always trailing behind.

LIGHT WORK

We're on borrowed time
Darkness will soon want it back
To black
To night
So show off your light
Let me get beneath the skin
Of life
And begin
Tearing at the layers with alacrity
Leaving my mark
